I was raised south of Nashville, TN so I got a lot of country music & old 60’s & 70’s rock growing up. This is a video of a song I remember from my childhood. Ode to Billy Joe. I have my own theories about what/why Billy Joe jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge for, but the songwriter herself never wrote the reason that he jumped.

Traveling this year. I’ve already had 6 trips. Yes some of these were quick jaunts to my parents.

One was a weekend trip to the Bahamas. A few were with S in Memphis. Last year 13 of my trips were work related (travel nurse) when I was booking a hotel every week.

Hard to believe I’ve spent 17 days on the road this year. And I found out all this from TripIt. Hadn’t really payed attention to it until last night.

Only lawyers, EULA collectors and legal obsessives will find this funny, but it cracked me up: care to access the 140-character pearls of wisdom streaming forth from Wal-Mart’s Twitter account? Well, first you have to agree to the 3,379-word Terms of Use agreement that comes with it. I know, I know, a lot of big corporate entities on social networking sites likely put forth equally verbose TOUs, but — a “Twitter Discussion Policy“? Awesome overkill. It all starts here. A little behind the times, Flickr just added Twitter support. I am waiting for the day I can use it with Tweetie. I’ve got lots of photos stored on my Flickr account. And I have used it since before Yahoo! bought the service. I have so many photos there that I paid for the service.

Right now I am using TwitPic service because with Tweetie you have a choice of either TwitPic or yfrog. While I’d love to keep all my photos together in the same location, convince wins. It is more convenient to snap a photo using Tweetie & upload directly to TwitPic than to take a photo, copy into an email then type the Twitter into the subject line & hope it is less than 160 characters.

Has it been that long? Sometimes it seems longer. And when getting Heather’s phone set up we found ourselves going “There’s an app for that!” often. I am working on compling a list of stuff I actually still use frequently.

Official Google Blog: Google Voice invites on their way

I have been using GrandCentral (now Google Voice) for over a year now. L has been on the invite list for about a year and she just got her invite. It does have a mobile app. And this is an application that still could use some serious upgrades. But it is invaluable to me as a traveler. Right now I have several recruiters over about 6 companies.  Some of them get annoying & pushy. That’s when they get put on voicemail only for a little while. That’s right. I don’t even know they called until I get a voicemail alert. It’s handy. Plus if I have a second home phone. I can make it ring that only and not use up my mobile minutes. Or I can get a new phone number. And not have to tell anyone. I can have a different answering messages for my friends than I do business contacts. That “Whazzzzup chicas?” is great for your friends, but you don’t want an employeer or a coworker to get the wrong impression. Plus if you work in an office it can ring your office phone. Video kinda explains some of the features.
