[Review] iPhone app: CheckPlease

Website: N/A
Iphone site: N/A
App store link: [1]
Cost: Free

CheckPlease is a tip calculator. Enter the total amount of the check. Then select on the scroll wheel the tip and the number of people splitting it. The tip percentage can be 0 to 99 percent. The number of people between 1 and 30. It also allows you to post to Pocket Money. I don’t use this so I don’t know how it works. The newer layout is a lot like TIP and is much better than the old layout (which is still an option).

[Review] iPhone apps: Last.FM

iPhone site: N/A
App Store link: [1]
Cost: Free
Uses: 3G Network

photo.jpgThis is an internet radio app similar to Pandora [2], but with a few different approaches. It accesses your Last.FM profile [tatianamik]. You can pick radio stations based on your library, your friend’s listens, or recommendations for you. It also keeps your most recently listened to stations handy. If you simply just want similar artists it will handle that as well as artists that have been tagged. You can access your Top Artist, Albums & Tracks charts. When you are listening to radio you can look up the artist’s bio, similar artists, upcoming events & more. You can also share with someone in your contacts or among Last.FM friends. It also had the ever convenient Buy on iTunes button.

If you want to use the My Library function you probably want to be using the desktop version with your iTunes. It’s free from the website.

[Review] iPhone app: AIM

iPhone site: N/A
App Store link: [1]
Cost: Free
Uses: Network

photo.jpgUntil Push technology is implemented, I hate AIM on the iPhone. In the best of times, I only pop in and out of IM. That’s cause I’m usually online at weird times, like 3 am on my nights off. You will have much better luck using something asynchronous such as email or twitter. AIM you have to keep the program open. And frankly I don’t want to just sit there with my phone powered up with AIM sitting on the screen in case someone wants to IM me. Just ain’t going to happen.

[Review] iPhone App: Remote

Sites: None

This is an app written by Apple. It does a very simple thing. Over your wifi connection it controls your iTunes. You can browse the music/video library on your computer and play it. Just like you can play the part of your library that’s on your phone. See the album art. Everything. The great thing about it being Wifi is you don’t have to be within line of sight to access it. You can be in another room. Or downstairs. As long as your library and your phone are on the same wifi network it will work. Very useful, even if it is a pretty simple concept.
